藤原茂範所著《唐鏡》是在日本首度以日文寫成的中國通史。其內容雖多擷取自中國正史,然仍有諸多記載因出處不詳而有待商榷。本篇論文將由此點出發,針對其中佛典的相關記載做進一步探討。《唐鏡》中佛教史的記載,大多源自於唐僧法琳所著的《辯正論》一書。《辯正論》乃是唐初,佛道二教激辯之時,法琳為了維護佛學所寫成的一本著作。本篇論文將著眼於藤原茂範如何看待《辯正論》,以及如何將其中論述運用於《唐鏡》的佛典記述中,進而探討《唐鏡》中所陳述的佛教史。“Karakagami” by Fujiwara Shigenori is the first Chinese general history written in Japanese.
